イギリス、リバプールの労働者階級の家庭出身で７人兄弟である。父親は仕事中の事故で肢体に麻痺が残る。ロンドン大学で教育と演劇を専攻

死没　

2020年8月22日、ロビンソンが8月21日に癌との短い戦いの後、家族に囲まれて安らかに亡くなったことがツイッターを通じて確認された。70歳没。

思想

アメリカの教育は「工業的」に画一化を志向しているが、人間はもっと「農業的」有機的存在として教育され成長するべき、と説く、演劇などを取り入れた斬新な教育方法を実施し、数学や科学を含め子供たちの学習成績を大幅に改善した功績が認められ、サー（ナイト）の称号を授かる

TED (カンファレンス)でのプレゼンテーションが有名であり、2014年に2千万回を、2022年8月現在では1億回を超える視聴を達成している。中でも「学校教育は創造性を殺してしまっている (Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity)」は、最も人気である。
