ザ・レプラシー・ミッション

ザ・レプラシー・ミッション（The Leprosy Mission, TLM、元 Mission to Lepers, MTL）は、ハンセン病問題に取り組む、キリスト教の国際的支援活動。　インドを中心として28カ国で活動[1][2]。　ロンドンに本部を持つ。


年表 編集

  • 1874年、ウェルズレイ・ベイリーはアイルランドに帰国。妻アリスと共にインドハンセン病患者のための募金を呼びかける[5] The Mission to Lepers として活動開始[6]
  • 1917年、インド、極東12カ国87活動[7]
  • 1950年代、アフリカに活動拡大[8]
  • 1954年、フランス人作家Raoul Follereauは、毎年1月最終日曜日を「世界ハンセン病の日」として設定。これはハンセン病に理解があったマハトマ・ガンジーが殺害された日（1月30日）に近い日曜日に由来する。なお、インドその他で国際的な行事もこの日に設定されている。
  • 1965年、The Mission to Lepers から The Leprosy Mission に改称。　[9]
