ジョージ・ジョンストン (博物学者)

ジョージ・ジョンストン（George Johnston、 1797年7月20日 - 1855年7月30日）は、スコットランドの医師、博物学者である。

経歴

ベリックシャー(Berwichshire)のシンプリン(Simprin)で生まれた。家族とノーサンバーランドに移った。エディンバラ大学で医学を、有名な医師のジョン・アバークロンビーのもとで学んだ。1817年に資格を得て、エディンバラ王立外科医師会に入会を許され、ロンドンで開業した。1818年にベリック・アポン・ツィードで開業した。博物学の分野で、ベリックシャー・ナチュラリスト・クラブの設立者であり、初代の会長になった。著書に"Flora of Berwick-upon-Tweed"（「ベリック・アポン・ツィードの植物」）、"History of British Zoophytes"（「イギリスの食虫類」）、"History of British Sponges and Lithophytes"（「イギリスの海綿動物と石灰生物」）などがあり、多くの著作で、妻となったキャサリン・チャールズが挿絵を描いた。博物学のレイ協会の創立者の1人でもある。1837年から Magazine of Zoology and Botany の編集者の1人であり、後に Annals and Magazine of Natural History や Edinburgh Philosophical Journal 、ジョン・ラウドンの Magazine of Natural History や Transactions of the Natural History Society of Newcastle や Proceedings of the Berwickshire Naturalists' Club などに90以上の論文を寄稿した。

• Terra Lindisfarnensis: the Natural History of the Eastern Borders, vol. i., Botany, with the popular names and uses of the plants, and the customs and beliefs which have been associated with them, 1853 (no more published).
• Catalogue of the British non-parasitical Worms in the Collection of the British Museum, completed just before Johnston's death, but not published by the trustees until 1865.
