ダニー・ボーイ

「ダニー・ボーイ」（Danny Boy）は、アイルランドの民謡であり、「ロンドンデリーの歌」として知られる旋律に歌詞を付けたものである。この旋律は「ダニー・ボーイ」のほかにも数多くの歌詞で歌われる。

概説

この歌詞はイングランドの弁護士、フレデリック・ウェザリーの作である。元々は別の曲のために1910年に作られた詞だったが、それは広く知られるには至らなかった。1912年にアメリカにいる義理の姉妹から「ロンドンデリーの歌」の楽譜を送られると、彼は翌1913年にその詞をこのメロディーに合うように修正して発表した。

女性の立場で男性に別れを告げる歌として解釈できる内容だが、この歌は男性歌手によっても多く歌われてきた。また両親や祖父母が戦地に赴く息子や孫を送り出すという設定で解釈されることも多い。
