ヘンリー・クリストファー・ベイリー
ヘンリー・クリストファー・ベイリー（Henry Christopher Bailey , 1878年 - 1961年）は、イギリスの作家。
略伝 編集
ロンドンに生まれる。オックスフォード大学に籍をおき、古典を学んでいる。在学中に"My Lady of Orange" という歴史小説を書いて、小説家で書誌学者のアンドリュー・ラングに認められ、イギリスとアメリカの両国で出版された。卒業とともにデイリー・テレグラフ紙に入社し、劇評を担当し、第1次世界大戦の時期は従軍記者になり、後にはリーダー・ライターとして認められる[1]。
1914年頃から医者で探偵役もつとめるレジナルド・フォーチュンを主人公とする探偵小説のシリーズを書き始め、1920年には初めての短編集『フォーチュン氏を呼べ Call Mr.Fortune』が出版され、以来1948年まで長編・短編あわせ23冊もの人気シリーズとなった。欧米各国で広く愛読され、1950年代のイギリス探偵小説としてはセイヤーズ、クリスティー、クロフツ、フリーマンとともに五大家と評価されていた[2]。
