ダンモア伯爵（英: Earl of Dunmore）は、スコットランド貴族の伯爵位。

アソル公爵マーレイ家の分流にあたるチャールズ・マーレイが1686年に叙されたのに始まる。

歴史編集

スコットランドの氏族（クラン）の一つマーレイ氏族（英語版）の族長(Chief of Clan Murray)で初代アソル侯爵のジョン・マレー（英語版）(1631-1703)の三男チャールズ・マーレイ(1661–1710)は、ジェームズ2世治世下の1686年 8月16日にブレア、モーリン、ティルミットのマーレイ卿(Lord Murray of Blair, Moulin and Tillimet)、フィンキャッスル子爵(Viscount of Fincastle)、そしてダンモア伯爵(Earl of Dunmore)に叙せられた。いずれもスコットランド貴族爵位である。しかし名誉革命後にはジャコバイトと疑われるようになり、しばしば投獄を受けた^[1]^[2]。

その息子である2代伯ジョン・マレー(1685–1752)は、大将まで昇進した陸軍軍人だが、結婚せず子供がなかったため、弟のウィリアム・マーレイ(1696–1756)が3代伯を継承している^[1]。

その息子4代伯ジョン・マーレイ(1730–1809)は、アメリカ独立戦争時にバージニア植民地総督であったことで知られる^[3]^[1]。

その息子5代伯ジョージ・マーレイ（英語版）(1762–1836)は、1831年 9月10日に連合王国貴族爵位パース州におけるアソル森林のダンモアのダンモア男爵(Baron Dunmore, of Dunmore in the Forest of Atholl in the County of Perth)に叙された^[1]^[4]。この爵位は9代伯ジョン・マーレイ(1939–1980)の代まで継承され続け、その間の当主はこの爵位に基づいてイギリス貴族院に自動的に議席を保有した。

9代伯の死で5代伯の男系男子は絶えたのでダンモア男爵位は廃絶したが、ダンモア伯爵位の方は4代伯に遡っての分流レジナルド・マーレイ(1911–1981)に継承された（10代伯）。10代伯の死後、その弟ケネス・マーレイ(1913–1995)が11代伯を継承し、11代伯の死後はその息子マルコム・マーレイ（英語版）(1946-)が12代伯爵位を継承して現在に至る^[1]^[5]

現在の当主の住居はオーストラリアのイースト・デヴォンポート（英語版）にある^[1]。
