バビロニア年代記

バビロニア年代記 (英語: Babylonian Chronicles) は、古代バビロニアで起きた事象を記録した粘土板の文書群の総称。古代史学における第一歩に位置付けられている、重要な史料である。バビロニアの天文学者の手により作成されたバビロニア王ナボナッサルの時代からパルティア時代までの歴史を取り扱う歴史書で、おそらくバビロニア天文日誌を出典として用いたと考えられている。

現在バビロニア年代記の一部と認められているほぼすべての粘土板は、19世紀に何者かによって発掘され、遺物業者の手を経て大英博物館に収められているものである。3点を除いては、詳しい来歴が分かっていない[2]。

バビロニア年代記からは、同時代の「支配者の視点」からみた長大なバビロニアの歴史を知ることができる[2]。

発見と出版 編集

バビロニア年代記は19世紀にバビロンで発掘された後に大英博物館に移されたと考えられているが、解読不能なまま数十年にわたりアーカイブされていた。初めて出版されたのは1887年、テオフィルス・ピンチェスが"The Babylonian Chronicle"と題してBM 92502 (ABC1)を出版したものである。1923年にはFall of Nineveh Chronicle（ニネヴェの陥落年代記、ABC 3)が、1924年にはシドニー・スミスによりEsarhaddon Chronicle (エサルハドン年代記、ABC 14)、Akitu Chronicle (アキトゥ年代記、ABC 16)、Nabonidus Chronicle (ナボニドゥス年代記、ABC 7)が、1956年にはドナルド・ワイズマンにより粘土板4枚分のNebuchadnezzar Chronicle (ネブカドネザル年代記、ABC 5)が出版された[3]。
