ルー・ベガ（Lou Bega、本名：David Lubega、1975年4月13日 - ）は、イタリア系・ウガンダ系ドイツのミュージシャンで、代表曲「マンボNo.5」で知られる。この曲は1949年のペレス・プラードのリメイクである。ベガはオリジナル・バージョンをサンプリングし、彼自身が書いた詞を加えた。

ベガの母親は南イタリアのカラブリア州出身で、父親はウガンダ出身である。父親は1972年にルートヴィヒ・マクシミリアン大学ミュンヘンで生物学を学ぶためドイツへ移った[1]。ベガは6歳までは母親とイタリアで過ごしたが、その後でミュンヘンへ移り住みドイツの小学校に通った。15歳のとき、マイアミで1年半過ごした。また、ウガンダに半年間住んでいた[2]。現在ベガはベルリンに住んでいる。

ベガのミュージシャンとしてのキャリアの初めは、ラッパーだった。13歳のとき、2人の友人とヒップ・ホップ・グループを結成した。2年後の1990年、ベガと友人たちで最初のCDを発表した[1]。ベガはマイアミに住んでいるとき、ラテン音楽に出会った。ミュンヘンに戻った後、Lautstartレーベルと契約した[3]。ルー・ベガの音楽は、1940年代・1950年代と現代の音楽の距離を縮めて結合することで成立する。

彼の1stシングルは「マンボNo.5」(Mambo No. 5) で、ドイツ[4]、イギリス[5]、フランス[6]などヨーロッパ中のヒットチャートで1位を獲得し、アメリカ合衆国でも3位を記録した。特にフランスでは12週間1位を獲得する大ヒットとなった[7]。イギリスのテレビ局チャンネル4のテスト・マッチクリケット中継では1999年から2005年まで、この曲が使用されていた[8]。

1999年7月19日、アルバム『A Little Bit of Mambo』を発売した。このアルバムはアメリカ合衆国で3位を記録し、彼の本国であるドイツでも3位を記録した。イギリスでは、50位しか記録できなかった。オーストリア、カナダ、フィンランド、ハンガリー、中東、ポルトガル、スイスでは1位を獲得した[9]。2ndシングル「I Got a Girl」は、フランス、フィンランド、ベルギーでトップ10に入った[10]。3rdシングル「Tricky, Tricky」はカナダのチャートで18位を記録し、アメリカのビルボードのチャートで74位を記録した。「Mambo Mambo」はフランスのチャートで11位を記録した。

ベガの2枚目のスタジオ・アルバム『Ladies and Gentlemen』は、2001年3月28日に発表された。このアルバムに収録されている「Baby Keep Smiling」は、ブエナ・ビスタ・ソシアル・クラブのコンパイ・セグンドとのデュエットである[11]。

彼はディズニーチャンネルのアニメシリーズ『ブランディ アンド Mr.ウィスカーズ』の主題歌を歌った。

ベガはドイツのエコー賞で5回ノミネートされ、そのうち2回受賞した。他にはグラミー賞にノミネートされた他、カンヌのワールドミュージック・エンタイテイメント賞、ロサンゼルスの超大作エンターテイメント賞、ヴェローナのフェスティバル・バー、ウィーンのアマデウス賞、ベルリンの Bunteニューフェイス賞を獲得した。ルーのツアーは世界中を回っていて、シェールとアメリカ22都市で行い、南米のリオデジャネイロ、ブエノスアイレス、サンパウロでライヴショーを行って、インドのムンバイ、ニューデリー、チェンナイ、バンガロール、カルカッタでツアーを行った。ヨーロッパでは200回以上コンサートを行い、あわせて300万人以上の客を動員した。

2010年にアルバム『Free Again』を発表した[12]。
