ヴィム・メルテン
ヴィム・メルテン（Wim Mertens、1953年5月14日 - ）はベルギーの現代音楽の作曲家、音楽プロデューサー、音楽学者。
略歴 編集
オランダとベルギーの楽壇、つまりオランダ語を介する人物によって作られる音楽畑が概して「反復音楽」の影響下にあるとされるが、その傾向を確立した人物の一人としてルイ・アンドリーセンやシメオン・テン・ホルトとともに名高い。もともとミニマル・ミュージックはアメリカ合衆国で発生した現象であったが、これがヨーロッパに輸入された後もそのままミニマリズムの影響下に置かれる人物が出現した。彼はAmerican Minimal Musicという著書があり、アメリカのミニマリズムを先導した四人の人物について詳細なリサーチを述べている[1]。
メルテンはルーヴェン・カトリック大学で社会政治学を修めた後、ヘント大学で音楽学に転科。後にブリュッセル王立音楽院でピアノと音楽理論を学んでいる。1970年代は音楽プロデューサーとして多数のミニマルアーティストを紹介したが、1980年代には自身の音楽グループで公演を行うようになった。作品は旋律や構成法でフィリップ・グラスに近い性格を持つが、グラスのようにオーケストラのための新作が優勢になることはなく、もっぱら少人数のアンサンブルの公演を行っている。
日本では「ソフト・ヴァーディクト」というグループ名義で、クレプスキュール・レーベルからレコードが発売されたことがある。
