ヘブリディーズ諸島はスコットランドの島嶼部ではおそらく最も有名だろう。しかし[[クライド湾]]諸島（[[アラン島 (スコットランド)|アラン島]]や[[ビュート島]]など）や[[フォース湾]]諸島、ノーザン・アイルズ（[[オークニー諸島]]や[[シェトランド諸島]]）も別のグループに含まれる。時にクライド湾諸島、特にアラン島は誤ってヘブリディーズ諸島であるとされる。
