ロバート・フックのものとされる肖像画が現存しないことは、フックと[[アイザック・ニュートン]]の激しい論争の結果とされることがある。フックが存命中は王立協会はグレシャム大学で会合を開いていたが、その死後数カ月以内にニュートンが会長となり、新たな王立協会の会合場所を建設する計画が持ち上がった。1710年に新たな建物に移転する際、フックの肖像画が行方不明になり、未だに発見されていない。
[[タイム (雑誌)|タイム]]誌は1939年7月3日の号でフックと思われる肖像画が見つかったと発表した。しかし [[:en:Ashley Montagu|アシュレイ・モンタギュー]] がその来歴を調査したが、フックとの明確な関係は見つからなかった。さらに Montagu モンタギューはフック存命中のフックの容貌に関する記述を発見したが、その内容はタイム誌が発表した肖像画とは全く似ていなかった<ref>{{Cite journal| author = Montagu, M. 2003年、歴史家 [[:en:Lisa Jardine|リサ・ジャーディン]] は新たに発見された肖像画がフックのものだと主張したが<ref>{{Harvnb|Jardine|2003|pp=15-19}}</ref>、[[シンシナティ大学]]の William Jensen ウィリアム・ジェンセンがこれを論駁した<ref>See [http://www.libraries.uc.edu/source/volfour/oesper2.html Oesper Chemistry Collection Helps Professor Clear Up Portrait Mystery]</ref>。Jardine ジャーディンがフックの肖像画とした絵はフランドルの学者[[ヤン・ファン・ヘルモント]]を描いたものとされている。
他にフックを描いたと思われるものとして次のような作品がある。
* 埋葬されたロンドンの [[:en:St Helen's Bishopsgate|St Helen's Bishopsgate]] にはフックを記念したステンドグラスがあった<ref>[http://www.rod.beavon.clara.net/robert_hooke.htm Robert Hooke]</ref>。ただし、非常に様式的なもので似せて描いたとは言えない。この窓は1993年の[[IRA暫定派]]による爆破事件 ([[:en:1993 Bishopsgate bombing|en]]) で破壊された。
