[[アルカンタラ]]は[[タホ川]]に接した町で、川には橋（アラビア語でカンタラ ''cantara'' ）が架かっており、町の名称はこれに由来する。[[エストレマドゥーラ州]]に位置し、12世紀における[[イベリア半島]]の[[ムスリム]]対[[キリスト教徒]]の主戦場となった。アルカンタラは1167年にレオン王[[フェルナンド2世 (レオン王)|フェルナンド2世]]により一旦占領されたが、1174年には再び[[ムワッヒド朝]]の[[アブー＝ヤアクーブ・ユースフ1世]]の手に落ちた<ref>''Fernando II, King of Leon'', Bernard F.
