アメリカの言語学者 (1942 - )

ライル・リチャード・キャンベル（Lyle Richard Campbell, 1942年10月22日 - ）[1]は、アメリカ合衆国の言語学者。アメリカ先住民の言語、特に中央アメリカの言語と歴史言語学全般の研究で知られる[2]。キャンベルは、ハワイ大学マノア校の言語学名誉教授である。

人生と経歴 編集

ライル・キャンベルは1942年10月22日に生まれ、オレゴン州の田舎で育った。1966年にブリガムヤング大学で考古学と人類学の学士号を取得し、1967年にワシントン大学で言語学の修士号を取得した。その後、UCLAの博士課程に進学し、1971年に"Quichean Linguistic Prehistory"「キチェ語の言語学的先史」と題した論文で博士号を取得した[3]。

キャンベルは、ミズーリ大学(1971~1974年)、ニューヨーク州立大学オールバニ校(1974~1989年)、ルイジアナ州立大学(1989~1994年)、カンタベリー大学(ニュージーランド、クライストチャーチ)(1994~2004年)、ユタ大学(2004~2010年)で役職を歴任し、現在はハワイ大学マノア校に移っている。彼はまた、オーストラリア国立大学、エル・コレヒオ・デ・メヒコ大学院大学、メモリアル大学、オハイオ州立大学、ハンブルク大学、ヘルシンキ大学、メキシコ国立自治大学、バスク大学、トゥルク大学、ブラジルの3大学で客員教授を務めている。彼は、言語学、人類学、行動研究、ラテンアメリカ研究、スペイン語の分野にまたがって研究している。

彼の研究・教育の専門分野には、歴史言語学、アメリカ先住民諸語、危機言語の記録・文書化と再興[4]、類型論、社会言語学、言語人類学、ウラル語族が含まれる。

彼は21冊の本と200以上の記事の著者である。彼の2冊の本（"American Indian languages: The historical linguistics of Native America"『アメリカ先住民諸語：アメリカ先住民の歴史的言語学』と、アリス・C・ハリスとの共著"Historical Syntax in Cross-Linguistic Perspectives"『言語横断的視点における歴史的統語論』）は、アメリカ言語学会から最近2年間に出版された最良の言語学関連書としてレナード・ブルームフィールド賞を授与された。彼はまた、Catalogue of Endangered Languages（危機言語カタログ）の共同創設者であり、Governance Council for the Endangered Languages Project（絶滅危機言語プロジェクトのガバナンス委員会）のメンバーでもある。
