アルベルト・ギュンター

アルベルト・ギュンター（Albert Karl Ludwig Gotthilf Günther または Albert Charles Lewis Gotthilf Günther、1830年10月3日 – 1914年2月1日）は、ドイツ生まれの魚類、爬虫類両生類分野の動物学者である。大英博物館で働いた。

ヴュルテンベルク王国（現在のドイツ・バーデン＝ヴュルテンベルク州）エスリンゲン・アム・ネッカーに生まれた。ボンとベルリンで神学を学んだ後、テュービンゲンで医学を学んだ。1857年に大英博物館で魚類学者として働くようになり、ジョン・エドワード・グレーの後を継いで、ロンドン自然史博物館の動物学の学芸員となり、1895年まで働いた。8巻の魚類図鑑(1859年–1870年、Ray Society)を発刊した。爬虫類や両生類のコレクションも研究した。1864年に『動物学文献記録』（the Record of Zoological Literature）を創刊し、6年間編集を行った。『動物学文献記録』は現在も"Zoological Record"としてトムソンロイター社からオンラインでも発行され続けており、2014年に創刊150周年を迎えた[1]。1874年にイギリスの国籍を得た。日本固有種のミズラモグラEuroscaptor mizura (Günther, 1880)は、神奈川県横浜市産の標本に対して、1880年に新種記載されたものである[2]。

1867年に王立協会の会員に選ばれ、1875年から1876年まで副会長を務めた。動物学会の委員を40年間にわたって務めた。1877年にロンドン・リンネ学会の会員に選ばれ、1896年から1900年まで会長を務めた[3][4]。1878年、王立協会からロイヤル・メダルを受賞した。
