Biography 編集

Born in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. She is the eldest of four sisters, and her younger sister is YouTuber and marriage advisor, Minako Sekiguchi[11].

In her childhood, she was a girl who loved to draw pictures and her dream was to become a painter[12]. When she entered junior high school, she was bullied and closed her mind, but after encountering theater, she came to realize that she wanted to work to make people happy[13].

In 2003, she entered the Information Processing Department of Tokyo Metropolitan The Second Commercial High School. From the earliest stages of the Internet, she began creating homepages and updating blogs, etc., and communicated as an early adopter[12].

After graduating from high school in 2005, she made her debut in the entertainment industry under her real name, Aimi Sekiguchi(関口愛美). After working as an actress and singer, she changed her activity name to Aimi Sekiguchi (せきぐちあいみ) on March 5, 2016[14]. She started her career as a "VR artist" who creates "VR art" and performs live performances, drawing three-dimensional art in virtual reality (VR) space[15][16].

In 2017, she planned the world's first VR art solo exhibition through crowdfunding, reaching the target amount in one day and successfully held the exhibition. She began creating VR art and giving live performances in Japan and abroad[17].

In March 2021, her own digital artwork was sold for 13 million yen at an auction[18].

In August 2021, she became the "Minami Soma Mirai Egaki Ambassador" in Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture[8].

On September 10, 2021, she founded MUSOU Co., Ltd., a digital art planning, production, sales, and artist management company, and became its president and representative director. The origin of the company name "MUSOU" means "to be the one and only and to create a world never seen before as in a dream", and the date of September 10 was chosen because it was a lucky day on the Japanese calendar and because it was the birthday of her beloved grandmother[11].

In December 2021, she was selected by Forbes Japan as one of the "2021 Forbes Japan 100"[19][20].

In August 2022, she was selected as a member of the "Research Project on Constructing Web-3.0-Era Creator Economies" by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry[4]. In November of the same year, she was elected as a member of the "Public-Private Partnership Conference on Addressing New Legal Issues Concerning Content in the Metaverse" by the Intellectual Property Office of the Cabinet Office[5].

In May 2023, she held a solo VR art exhibition and live painting performance at the Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, United Arab Emirates[21]. In December of the same year, she was granted a Golden Visa as a high-profile artist by the Dubai (Cultural and Arts Authority)[22].

Personalities and Biographies 編集

  • Loves her grandmother[10].
  • Her ancestor is Saegusa Morikuni[23].
  • In her school days, she had been bullied. In his third year of junior high school, she encountered theater and came to want to work in the world of entertainment, creating something, delivering it to people, and making them happy. Even now, she strives to create things with the sole intention of "making people happy for a living"[2].
  • Since she studied information processing in high school, she created websites and updated blogs from the dawn of the Internet. Since then, she has always been an early adopter of the times, delivering information on YouTube, crowdfunding, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), non-fungible tokens (NFT), and the metaverse, etc.[2][12].
  • The first time she drew a picture in the space of VR, it felt like her instincts were calling out, "This is it!" and it felt like it was demanding her to do it. Like magic, she became absorbed in the work, as if she were back in her childhood. She couldn't do it well at first, but even though she was tired from working on it, the desire to do more won out. She had the feeling that her heart and brain delighted[12].
  • Although she is often thought of as a "technology expert" because of her activities as a VR artist, she is not originally an expert in the digital field. In an interview, she said that her current activities are the result of her repeated attempts to touch and try everything, as she has always tried whatever her intuition tells her to try as long as it has potential[12].
  • In the beginning of 2021, she saw a news story about a multi-million yen NFT art market overseas, and she immediately started researching to find out what she needed to do.
  • She learned all about NFT at once in two days, created NFT art, and submitted it to the NFT auction, where it was sold for 13 million yen. After that, similar works of art were sold one after anothe[2].
  • She likes Japanese culture and the Japanese way of thinking, which emphasizes compassion and gratitude for Japanese gardens, shrines, and Buddhist temples. The way garden stones are placed, the way trees grow, and the way bridges are built create beautiful scenery from every angle. She believes that the traditional Japanese aesthetic sense values the importance of space. She respects the power of nature, which cannot be surpassed by technology. It is also a motif of her works, and she uses it as a great reference in creating VR spaces[12].
  • She was inspired by reading Sakuteiki, Japan's oldest garden book written in the Heian period (794-1185), and uses it as a reference when creating VR art[3].
  • She likes and was influenced by Hokusai Katsushika, Princess Tenko, and Ado Mizumori[3].
  • Her height is 167cm, three sizes are B85-W61-H88, foot size is 24.5cm, and her blood type is A[24].
  • Around 2005, before she started her career as an idol, she happened to be interviewed by a TV reporter at Keio-Hachioji Station on the day when women-only train service was introduced during rush hours on weekdays in the Tokyo metropolitan area. When she was asked, "The women-only train service has started today, do you prefer to ride in it?"  She replied, "I don't really care where I ride." This became an internet meme[25].

Aimi Sekiguchi and VR 編集

  • Being a grandmother lover, Sekiguchi came up with the idea of promoting VR caregiving and VR welfare based on her own experience[26][27].
  • She once attended a friend's wedding in a VR wedding ceremony. She said that the moment of the bouquet toss made the occasion extraordinarily exciting[28].
  • She says that voice quality is important for VR dating sites, and that using a voice changer is also important to be attractive[28].
  • She mentioned that the world of the movie "The Dragon and the Freckled Princess," which depicted the possibilities of VR, could almost be made real with the current VR technology[28].
  • For VR beginners, she recommends the "Meta Quest2" released by Meta, which is available for 40,000-50,000 yen. Sekiguchi herself uses a high-spec gaming PC and "Meta Quest Pro"[28].
  • She has used VR sex services for men. She has told on YouTube that she tried some situations in which she could choose the size of the penis, and also had a situation in which she had both sexes[28].
