[[イングランド]]・[[ロンドン]]にて[[ナイジェリア]]人の父と[[ブラジル人]]の母のもとに生まれた<ref name="AllmusicBio"/>。18歳の時から曲を作り始め、21歳の時に[[ウィル・ヤング]]に提供した曲"Your Game"が[[ブリット・アワード]]を受賞<ref name="Billboard Artist"/>し、知名度を高める。その後自身のレコード会社である「Rokstarr Music」を設立し、デビューする。アメリカでのデビューシングル「Break Your Heart」はビルボードで1位を獲得した。
