馬場 菊太郎(ばば きくたろう、1905年7月11日 - 2001年11月30日)は、日本の後鰓類学者。福岡県糸島郡波多江村(現・糸島市波多江)出身[1]

馬場菊太郎は日本の後鰓類研究者の第一人者である。馬場が活躍する時代には貝類については既に多くの専門家がいたが、後鰓類は未開の分野であった。馬場は多くの海外の研究者と最新の知識を交流することで、日本での数少ない後鰓類専門家となった。その研究は日本の後鰓類の多様性を世界中に知らしめることになり、世界中の後鰓類研究家から敬愛された。

昭和天皇が収集した後鰓類について図譜の解説をするように下命され、『相模湾産後鰓類図譜』(1949年)、『相模湾産後鰓類図譜補遺』(1955年)を発表する。

その後晩年まで研究を絶やさず、他界寸前まで研究は続けられた。生涯に記載した後鰓類の新種は約112種。最後の研究は濱谷巌と共著となった「日本産ショウワアメフラシの記録」である。本文献は濱谷によって馬場の死後の2003年、日本貝類学会より公表された。[2]
