クリストフ・シャソル

クリストフ・シャソル(Christophe Chassol)、あるいはシャソル(Chassol)、はフランス出身のミュージシャン、作曲者、編曲家、音楽監督である。

略歴

シャソルは、フランス領マルティニークで1976年に生まれた。 4歳の時にパリ国立高等音楽・舞踊学校に入学し、16歳までそこで学んだ。

その後、奨学金を得てバークリー音楽大学で教育を受け、2002年に卒業。 このころまでに映画やテレビ番組、広告のための作曲活動を行うようになる。また、1994年から2002年の間には、フェニックスや、セバスチャン・テリエのアルバム『Politics』(2004)、Acid Washed、ケレン・アンら様々なミュージシャンのプロジェクトに参加した。

自身の創作のインスピレーションについて、イーゴリ・ストラヴィンスキー、スティーヴ・ライヒ、エンニオ・モリコーネ、ザ・キュアー、マイルス・デイヴィスといった名前をあげている。

2011年、自身のピアノ・キーボードとLawrence Claisのドラムスによるライブパフォーマンスを行う。このライブでは自身で撮影した"NOLA Chérie"というニューオリンズでのフェスティバルを映した映像と合わせて披露された。これは後に、Tricatelによって『NOLA Chérie』としてDVDとCDでリリースされた。

2013年、アルバム『Indiamore』をCDとDVDで発表。インドのコルカタとヴァーラーナシーで2012年の6月に撮影された映像を元に、シャソルがサウンドとイメージのミックスを行った。

2014年、FAIR selectionとDeezer Adami Awardを受賞。

2015年、アルバム『Big Sun』を発表。シャソルの故郷であるマルティニークの映像をもとにサウンドとイメージのミックスが行われた。シャソル自身はこの、映像とその音声、および楽器等による和音をミックスする手法をウルトラミックスと呼んでいる。 シャネルの2015年12月のメティエダール・コレクションでは、この『Big Sun』からの楽曲だけでショーが行われた(ミシェル・ゴベールによる選曲)。

音楽スタイル

シャソルの作品は、自身で撮影した様々な国の市井の人々の歌声や話し声を編集し、そこにピアノやキーボードで和音やメロディーを足して映像・音楽作品として仕上げるものである。もともとはYouTubeにアップされた様々な映像から自身の音楽作品を作ることを着想して始めたことだとシャソル自身は語っており、例えばバラク・オバマ大統領の演説を楽曲にアレンジした『Obama Harmonized By Chassol』などをアップロードしている。

その他

日本へは2度公演のため来日している。2015年に東京・飯田橋のアンスティチュ・フランセで、2016年の8月にビルボードライブ東京と大阪で公演している（ビルボードライブではそれぞれファーストショーで『Indiamore』、セカンドショーで『Big Sun』を再現するライブを行っている）。
