Infobox image syntax

Is there an Japanese Wikipedia equivalent to English Wikipedia's en:WP:THUMBSIZE or en:WP:IBI page? On English Wikipedia it's pretty much common practice not to use the thumbnail syntax for infobox images because the most infobox templates and the Wikipedia software will automatically format the size of the infobox image based upon the device the reader is using. In addition, it also makes it easier for screen reader to "read" to infobox image's caption when the caption parameter is used because a thumbnail image typically requires an "alt_text" parameter be provided for thumbnail images whereas the infobox caption parameter doesn't and can be read by screen readers. Maybe the software and templates used for Japanese Wikipedia work differently, however, based upon this post here. I would recommend setting the image size like "image=[[Image:Something.svg|200px]]" and "caption = whatever". In Japanese Wikipedia, setting the image size yourself is pretty common.--YellowSmileyFace（会話） 2022年4月6日 (水) 13:53 (UTC)

Korean version of airline accident report from Japanese government agency?

I notice page 44 (PDF p. 25) of this page on the MLIT website states "Distribution of Korean version of HL7762 HIJ accident investigation report to flight crew"

Where is this Korean version of the report located, and how do I obtain it? I only see English and Japanese listed on the English MLIT accident report list page.

Spk-digital is offline

The portal Spk-digital is offline. The Template:Spk-digital is only used by 7 articles and can be deleted. I've removed the dead links but a user undid my edits [1] and changed the link from www.spk-digital.de to stabikat.de.[2] This is a different website that produces different results. Restoring InternetArchiveBot

I am working with the Internet Archive as a contractor on managing User:InternetArchiveBot's deployments across the different Wikimedia projects and language editions. InternetArchiveBot fixes dead links on Wikipedia articles and adds links for offline resources, namely books.

My understanding is that InternetArchiveBot is currently blocked here for a few reasons, including (1) high rate of live links being mistakenly treated as dead (2) editing above the rate limit and (3) users invoking the bot directly causing the bot to go above the rate limit. I am working on fixing all of these problems so that the bot can resume operation on Japanese Wikipedia. We are deploying a link checking server in Tokyo that will be able to check the alive/dead status of websites not accessible outside of Japan. We have also made improvement that will better ensure compliance with rate limits.

Your help is requested. So that I can test the performance of the new Tokyo link checker, I would like a list of URLs, working and not-working, for websites based in Japan. I am especially interested in ones that you know do not work outside of Japan. This will help us assess the bot's performance.

Cross wiki spam abuses by sockpuppets

Hello. I'd like to let you know that several pages on ja.wikipedia are the target of sockpuppets bannished on fr.wikipedia for spam and insertion of false materials (texts and legend of images). The sockpuppets are listed on meta.

• For instance, I noticed that user:Do ob removed doubtful informations from 宮本武蔵, [3] but one of the sockpuppets put it back again [4].
• I removed other false material about グルエーズ (ローヌ県) that I know to be wrong, (for instance on 大原町 (岡山県) but may be you should have a look on others contributions
• Initially, the spam was to advertize a stone near by their french Dojo, 兵法二天一流メモリアル. This page was deleted on french and english wikipedia.
• On french wikipedia, we also blocked User:バラ属 : he is not on the list, as we could not make a check user (too old).

Discussion tools update

Hello, all. I have good news about the mw:Talk pages project.  あなたの言語への翻訳をお助けください.

• We have finally scheduled the deployment of mw:Talk pages project/Replying, which puts the [返信] button on talk pages.  Thank you again for being part of the test that showed the tool was successful.  When this change happens, everyone will have the Reply tool turned on.  You will be able to turn it off in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion.  You can read more about it at mw:Help:DiscussionTools.

• If you have enabled "議論ツール" in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures, you will get a new feature.  The new feature adds a [更新を通知] button to each ==Level 2 section== on a talk page.  If you subscribe to the section, then you will get Special:Notifications if someone adds a new comment to that section (but not if they fix typos or edit other parts of the page).  This can be very helpful on busy pages, especially if you only want to follow one conversations.  Please try it out and share your thoughts at mw:Talk:Talk pages project/Notifications.

A/B test for New Discussion Tool

The mw:Editing team is building the New Discussion tool. This new tool was requested during the mw:Talk pages consultation 2019. You can turn on "議論ツール" now at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures. It changes the "話題追加" button. It makes "話題追加" work more like the [返信] button. It has both visual and wikitext source modes. It will add your signature automatically.

The Editing team wants to test the New Discussion tool. Your Wikipedia helped with the study about the 返信 tool. That study was useful and had clear, positive results. They ask you to help again with a new test. They want to learn whether the New Discussion tool works better, especially for new editors. In the test, they will turn on the New Discussion tool for half of editors. They will not change preferences for the other editors. You will still be able to turn it on or off yourself in Special:Preferences.

The test will run for several weeks. It will probably start in November 2021. The results will be posted at mw:Talk pages project/New discussion. The test results will help Wikipedia editors and the Editing team decide whether the tool should be turned on for everyone.

Prince Fumihito

Hello. I hope everyone's doing well. I would have posted this message on the article's talk page, but I needed a response in English so I ended up here. I just needed the help of some native Japanese speakers who could help with the concerns that some users and I have had on the English Wikipedia regarding Prince Fumihito's title. We know that he was elevated to the rank of "Crown Prince" (皇嗣, Kōshi) in the past months, and he has been referred to as Crown Prince Akishino (秋篠宮皇嗣殿下) on the Imperial Household Agency website. But what caught my eye was that the Japanese article is still at 秋篠宮文仁親王 (Akishinonomiya Fumihito shinnō; 'Fumihito, Prince Akishino'). I wonder if there is a specific reason that Japanese users here have refrained from adding 皇嗣 to his page's title. Is there a rationale behind it that we might not be aware of? I forwarded your question in Japanese at the note page of 秋篠宮文仁親王. People in the note page said they decided not to change the title, but no one mentioned the reason. It's been a couple of weeks and no response in the note page. I don't think we can expect to get an answer from someone. As an ordinal Japanese guy, who is not a professional on emperor family, I would say that 皇嗣 is not a title. 皇太子 or 親王 is definitely a title. Historically oldest son of current emperor is the next emperor. The son is called 皇太子 (Koh Tai Shi). 皇嗣 means a successor of Japanese emperor but not necessarily be a son of current emperor. While some past emperors, who had no son, assigned 皇嗣 from relatives, there was no clear rule on 皇嗣 until 1889 (Meiji 22, 明治22年), when we learned succession order system in British royal family. This makes us some confusion if 皇嗣 can be a title or not, and some may oppose to use it as a title. Even I hesitate it.--Uiweo（会話） 2022年1月16日 (日) 06:15 (UTC)

Japanese Wikipedia's policy on vandals and LTA's

Hello! I've come here to ask if Japanese Wikipedia has an equivalent to enWiki's en:WP:DENY policy. I would like to request assistance in improving the page of a Japanese LTA's page on enWiki, however I would like to not violate any policies on either Wiki. Hi Blaze Wolf. I'm not sure what exactly you are asking for. The enWiki's en:WP:DENY is an essay, and its Japanese corresponding page, Wikipedia:認識を拒絶する, can be found easily by following its interwiki link.

We have a policy on vandals, Wikipedia:荒らし, but that can be also easily reached from the enWiki's en:Wikipedia:Vandalism page. That's why I'm confused.

@RottenApple777: Hello RottenApple! Apologies for the confusion, I often forget it's not policy and merely an essay, as it's often treated as policy. TO clarify a bit further (without going into too much detail because they're an LTA), there's an LTA here on Japanese Wiki that I recently came across through a post to enWiki's Teahouse (wasn't actually by the LTA but just someone who noticed an edit the LTA made). I noticed that they also have an LTA page on enWiki as well as here on jaWiki, however the enWiki page isn't nearly as good as the Japanese one. Blaze Wolf（会話） 2022年3月10日 (木) 21:15 (UTC)

• Wikipedia:荒らしの通報 - en:Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism (ongoing vandalism report)
• Wikipedia:進行中の荒らし行為/長期 - en:Wikipedia:Long-term abuse (a list of alleged LTAs)

The mw:Talk pages project would like to offer a new [更新を通知] button to half of the editors here.  The new [更新を通知] button will appear on each ==Section== of a talk page with comments.  If you click the new [更新を通知] button, you will "subscribe" or "follow" the discussion.  You will get a message in Special:Notifications when someone posts a comment in that section.

This is only for 50% of logged-in editors (not IPs).  Existing editors will need to click the new button to subscribe to a discussion.  New editors will be automatically subscribed to all topics that they start.  The Editing team hopes this will help new editors communicate with you.  You can test the [更新を通知] button now, on this page, by clicking on https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Help_for_Non-Japanese_Speakers?dtenable=1

You can learn more and talk to the Editing team at mw:Talk pages project/Notifications.  If you don't like it, you can turn it off in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures and Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion.

Hi. A sockpuppet group creates ja:廖城蘭 on a bunch of wiki projects without disclosing conflict of interest ([5][6]). Almost all of its sources are press releases / advertorials or en:WP:PRIMARY which cannot prove actual notability. It has been deleted on zhwiki and enwiki via deletion discussion with detailed analysis, even though discussions were disturbed by multiple sockpuppets. I suppose it might not meet the basic notability requirements here as well. I kindly ask an editor to help start a deletion discussion on this project. New version of LiveRC in progress

Hi, I'm JackJackpot from Wikipedia in French. Sorry to write in English; if someone can translate in the local language, it would be much appreciated. We plan to develop a new version of LiveRC, a patrolling tool commonly used on fr-wp to fight vandalism, but it is getting old, outdated, and needs several improvements. The project page is translated in English. The tool is needed for fr-wp, but we want to make it available (and configurable) for other wikis.

The fr-wp patrolling community has built a list of specifications for this new tool with our needs. We translated “Specifications” in English and it's available there.

On 00:51, 21 November 2022‎, just a week after Revision Deletion, the same copyright infringements were added to チルノ again by 利用者:しおきち（会話 / 投稿記録）, most content he added on that page was directly copied from https://dic.pixiv.net/a/%E3%83%81%E3%83%AB%E3%83%8E . We might need to submit an AFD again.

Considering this copyright infringements was added back in such a short time after deletion, and the edit behaviour seemed unlikely new user. My Japanese level is roughly around N5, so my apologies for writing in English.

A French LTA named 利用者:IJKL（会話 / 投稿記録） (also known as fr:wikt:User:X) is currently evading his global block and is (among other wikis) vandalising the Japanese Wikipedia.

This user is very stubborn and keeps contributing in languages he has little to no command of, including the Japanese language:

• Makes up kanji names for animals: [12][13][14][15][16][17][18]
• Makes up synonyms: [19][20]
• Removes alternate spellings found in dictionaries like Kotobank for no reason: [21][22][23][24]
• Replaces words that are usually written in kana by kanji, including in titles of works: [25][26][27][28][29]

The diffs I provided are just the tip of the iceberg, this user has been active since at least 2010, here's a list of his most recent IP addresses and accounts:

1. 利用者:Dim Blob（会話 / 投稿記録） (blocked on seven wikis)
2. 利用者:2A01:CB05:8B96:E000::/64（会話 / 投稿記録） (blocked on four wikis)
3. 利用者:2A01:CB05:8206:FB00::/64（会話 / 投稿記録）

This user has been blocked several times from the French Wikipedia, English and Greek Wiktionary, banned from the French Wiktionary, I think he should be banned here as well and have a LTA page (like LTA:IJKL) because it really takes a lot of time to clean up the false information he spreads everywhere.

This user is pushing an Korean nationalist agenda, fabricating historical material and engaging in personal attacks across wikipedia on a proxy ip as well.

All his edits reflect a Korean nationalist agenda including claiming the Hata clan were Koreans.

He used this source which says chankoro comes from a Taiwanese word, and made up his own content claiming it came from Han people calling themselves slaves in front of Manchus (when all Qing historians note that Han officials never call themselves slaves in front of the Qing Emperor but only Manchu bannermen did). The made up content be added doesn't match the citation.

He then fabricated an entire quote from Hideki Tojo claiming that history of Han is of slavery to different ethnicities including Goguryeo (which never ruled China but is only something a Korean nationalist would write). The Xianbei Murong defeated Goguryeo and the Mongols ruled Korea and Manchus defeated Korea. A Korean nationalist edited this quote onto their wiki pages on chankoro and of course put Goguryeo in there which Tojo would never have bothered to mention.

In fact both of the things he copied into the article only appears on Korean wikis. The whole sentence about Han people calling themselves slaves of Manchus only appeared first on these Korean wiki articles.

Potential violation of WP:BOT by Liruqi

User:Liruqi seems to be making large amounts of edits via an automated script that is not manually monitored. It can also be seen that Liruqi does not seem to be aware of issues unless other users report such issues on their talk page (en:User talk:Liruqi, zh:User talk:Liruqi). The user is currently blocked for one week for breaking wikitables with said script along with a BOTPOL block notice from a sysop on zhwiki. Please review if such edits comply with WP:BOT. To me it seems like a violation where the script has almost no human involvement according to my quick read and seems to have no support by discussion.
